There is a little songbird（鳴禽）, whose tongue tip is so agile（敏捷的） that she can imitate all the sounds vividly. Everyone admires her skill.

有一只會(huì)唱歌的小鳥，舌尖十分靈巧，能夠把所有聲音模仿得惟妙惟肖。大家都很羨慕她的才華。

A little chickadee（山雀） drops down and hurts him while practicing flying. The little songbird calls the chickadee's mother by imitating his chirping（鳴叫）. The whole family of the chickadee is very thankful for that.

一只小山雀在練習(xí)飛翔的時(shí)候摔傷了，這只小鳥通過模仿他的叫聲，叫來了他的媽媽。山雀一家都很感激她。

When Aunt Magpie（喜鵲） lies in her sickbed（臥?。? the little songbird stands at the treetop and sings for her. Thus, the magpie is so grateful to her. The little songbird is so pleased with herself that she perks（使振作） her tail, feeling proud of her great skill.

喜鵲嬸嬸臥病在床，這只小鳥站在樹梢為她唱歌。喜鵲很感激她。 小鳥自滿了起來，她翹起尾巴，為自己擁有這樣的本領(lǐng)感到驕傲。

Once, on seeing a swallow catching pests above the field, she mocks（嘲弄） at the eagle's scream. The swallow is frightened and flies away in a flurry.

有一次，她看見一只燕子在捉田里的害蟲，就用老鷹的叫聲捉弄燕子。燕子嚇壞了，慌忙飛走。

The songbird laughs amusedly. The little songbird thinks the practical jokes are so funny! One day, she mocks the eagle again. And an eagle does fly to her. She is scared stiff（僵硬的）.

小鳥哈哈大笑起來，覺得很好玩兒。 她覺得惡作劇實(shí)在是太有意思了！有一天，她又模仿老鷹的叫聲，真有一只老鷹朝她飛來，嚇得她渾身僵住，一動(dòng)都不敢動(dòng)。

“What do you ask me here for?” the eagle demands. “I...I did not ask you here,” the little songbird stammers（結(jié)結(jié)巴巴地說）. “You are lying!” the eagle says angrily. “I was chasing a quarry when I heard your calling, so I came here. Now, you serve as my food!” From then on, this little songbird has never been seen any more.

“你叫我來干嘛？”老鷹問。 “我……我沒叫您來啊?！睍?huì)唱歌的小鳥這下結(jié)巴了。 “你胡說！”老鷹生氣地說，“我正追獵物呢，就聽見你叫了，所以我就來了?，F(xiàn)在，我要把你吃掉！” 從那以后，再也沒人見過這只會(huì)唱歌的小鳥。

法國(guó)作家維克多·雨果(Victor Hugo，1802—1885)在《笑面人》中寫道：“賣弄風(fēng)騷的女人和賣弄學(xué)問的男人好比兩個(gè)鄰居。他們的關(guān)系可以從自命不凡的態(tài)度上看出來。”
